A Bowhill & Elliott signature, the Black Velvet Albert Slipper with the Skull & Crossbones embroidery blends classic slipper-making with a touch of playful irreverence. Cut from rich black velvet and finished with tonal binding and a black quilted satin lining, the shape remains true to the traditional Albert silhouette. A leather sole completes the design.
Each Skull & Crossbones is embroidered entirely by hand using gold-work techniques that lend the motif depth and definition.
Crafted using the 7033 pattern on the P last, an E-width fitting. The Albert slipper is defined by its traditional square tongue. A neat, supportive fit is best, ensuring the slipper remains secure without lacing.
In keeping with the traditional way in which slippers and house shoes have always been made, each slipper made for The Merchant Fox is created using an age-old shoe making process that involves hand crafting the fabric upper onto a last to create the slipper shape.
Norfolk has always been well known for shoe making, with evidence that there has been a footwear business operating from the same address in Norwich as far back as 1843.
The pure wool grey flannel for these exquisite slippers is woven by Fox Brothers & Co Ltd. at their mill in the West of England. Established in 1772. Fox has a rich history of producing fine woollen and worsted cloths in Somerset and some of the people involved in the weaving of this extraordinary cloth are the fourth generation of their family to work for Fox Brothers.
